There are some high level math problems in Thomas Renzo’s Pre- calculus class at Coral Springs High School. But these kids are solving them WHILE having fun, thanks to their teacher, who encourages them to participate.
"I think it's important to try to get the students all incorporated... you can ask any of them, at any given time you walk into my room they'll be at the board," said Renzo.
And it works both ways, Mr Renzo has a blast too. Especially when his students make a breakthrough.
"I love math and I hope that shows, I think if you're enthusiastic about the subject, the students notice that and we try to make it as fun as possible, " said Renzo.
"Mr.Renzo really makes sure that he works with his kids and he tries to relate with all of his students and he always gives us funny nicknames and really engages us in class. He's always available during lunch or after school and if we have questions he works with us to make sure we are doing the best," said 10th grader, Leah Cotler.
"Mr. Renzo is so captivating every time I go into his classroom, although I was an English major I want to stay, the students love him, he spends hundreds of hours after school tutoring at no charge. One of the first pieces of advice that seniors give me is to never get rid of Mr.Renzo, he's amazing," said Vivian Suarez, Principal of Coral Spring High School.
Mr Renzo has taught at Coral Springs High School for 22 years. And he’s still having as much fun as when he started.
"It's not about money, it's about having them learn and it's a really good feeling," said Renzo.
So give it up for Thomas Renzo. Any way you calculate it he’s this week’s Super Teacher and the recipient of two passes to Universal Studios Florida.
