This isn’t drama club. It’s Reina Tejero's Latinos In Action class at Everglades High School and her students are learning valuable life skills.
"We're talking about problem solving. Right now they're working on skits to see with different scenarios, they can solve problems," said Mrs. Tejero.
Mrs. Tejero is quite the busy lady. She teaches AP Language, AP Spanish Lit, Spanish 4 and 5, Latinos In Action, and she also prepares students for the AICE Cambridge Spanish exam. And this weekend, Mrs. Tejero and her students are headed to Tallahassee, Orlando, and Gainesville as part of the "Rally to Tally" program.
"It is an incredible opportunity for the students, it is a program that teaches students about democracy, government, and the laws of the state of Florida," said Tejero.
As if she wasn’t busy enough teaching all those classes and traveling around Florida with her students, Mrs. Tejero also makes time to tutor her kids and her hard work is certainly appreciated.
"She is amazing, her kids are always engaged and she always really cares about the kids, she puts kids first. Words can't describe how great Mrs. Tejero is and how fortunate these students are to have her as an educator," said Assistant Principal, Mark Hoffman.
"She is always trying to make us laugh and give us different activities to make us interact with each other and get to know each other and have fun," said 11th grader, Natalia Hermida.
It’s clear to everybody at Everglades that Mrs. Tejero loves what she does.
"It makes me feel good to see that the students are developing and becoming leaders and making a difference every single day," said Mrs. Tejero.
So give it up for Mrs. Tejero. She’s this week’s super teacher and the recipient of two passes to Universal Orlando Resort.
