Lifestyle Changes That Boost Your Health

If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, and your physical fitness needs a reboot, listen up. Personal Trainer and Yoga Therapist Michael Kuang from Syphon Fitness has some changes you can implement, starting with hydration and digestion.

"To start the day with drinking a warm cup of water, much like you're drinking tea but instead of actually putting  tea in you just drink it plain. What that does is it helps hydrates the internal organs as well as boost your of energy and helps increase our digestion. In the more typically our digestion can be a bit sluggish, so warm water helps to break up some of the fats and oils in our system," said Kuang.

For many of us, our minds are moving a thousand miles per hour. And we’re always thinking, usually of many things at once. But, some mindful meditation can help clear your head.

"I meditate everyday and suggest everyone at some place, maybe 5 or 10 minutes a day. It doesn't have to be a whole lot. I think people get intimidated  by mediation by thinking that they have to stop all thoughts all together. It's really just about focusing on your breathing, becoming more present, and allowing yourself to step back from your anxieties and fears. A lot of research has shown that meditation helps reduce stress and  anxiety. If you're able to do 10 minutes a day no matter what time of the day, it can be a great help to you, " said Kuang.

On to your physical fitness, and your exercise routine. Michael says you can make a positive change first thing in the morning.

"You know a lot of times when we wake up we feel very stiff especially when we walk for the first few steps.  Walking around stimulates the heart rate and you really start to get your day going in a positive upbeat mood," said Kuang.

And you don’t need to spend countless hours at the gym. Just some well placed time walking around can make a huge impact.

"If you're working in a building that has stairs, try to take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you're having a quick break, maybe go outside at take a quick walk around the block. Get some fresh air, some sunlight or some Vitamin D, it'll really help your mood," said Kuang.
