Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County has worked for decades to foster meaningful mentoring relationships with South Florida children and adults. We got to speak with Cathy Balenovic, who was honored as the 2021 Big Sister of the Year.
Cathy and her little sister have been matched for 12 years in the program. When they first matched she was just a toddler, but Cathy has been there with her for everything from elementary school to now, helping fill out college applications.
Even during the pandemic and the challenge of not being able to see each other as often as they'd like to, phone calls and COVID care packages kept them together.
Both big sister and little sister say that their bond will last a lifetime, and they look at each other as family.
