The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is one of the nation's leading pediatric facilities, offering a large scope of healthcare services in a setting designed specifically for children. Their new Catch the Love Campaign is helping them expand to better serve the needs of South Florida.
Dr. Andrew Greenfield, board chairman of the Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital Foundation, says it's a $56 million project. This will cover about a third of the total cost of the new expansion. The hospital will go from four floor to eight floors.
"It allows us to build a facility to attract world class clinicians," he says. "It's building the type of specialized services that when children are really, really sick, and need cardiac care or trauma care...we're going to make sure that we have a world class facility and world class clinicians to treat those children."
Family support areas and play zones will also be incorporated into the new design. Greenfield says this allows the hospital to offer care not only to patients, but to their families as well.
