Twitter Announces New "Fleets" Feature

Twitter is testing a new feature called “Fleets”, which automatically deletes tweets after 24 hours. The announcement was made last week.

The disappearing tweets will appear at the top of users home pages and are based primarily on text, but videos and photos can be added, tweeted Product Lead of Twitter, Kayvon Beykpour.

According to USA Today, Twitter’s test comes years after Snapchat kickstarted the wave of disappearing content with its stories in 2013. Other tech giants soon followed, releasing rival versions of the tool on Instagram and Facebook.

Twitter’s move sparked debate online over how it will deal with misinformation that spread through disappearing posts. Twitter says it’ll take enforcement action against people who violate the platform’s rules. The company also said the goal is to encourage users to worry less about what they have to say.

"Fleets" will roll out first for users in Brazil and then it will be progressively released in other regions.
